CAPIZ – The municipality of Tapaz recently opened a renal center for patients undergoing kidney treatment.
The renal center is at the Rural Health Unit (RHU) Annex Building in Barangay Salong.
Mayor Roberto Palomar said the health facility could also serve neighboring towns and provinces. It has been accredited with the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), he added.
During the opening day, five patients were sponsored by the local government unit (LGU) for their dialysis treatment.
The center provides state-of-the-art hemodialysis treatment and highly skilled professionals in a “safe, comfortable and pleasant environment.”
A patient, who asked to withhold her name, conveyed her gratitude for the LGU’’s initiative as it not only cuts down her travel expenses but is also a more viable option financially.
She said, while her treatment is free under the government’s indigency program, she spends over a thousand pesos each time for transportation and food allowance going to Iloilo City, which is over 80 kilometers away from her home.
The said patient has been undergoing dialysis treatment twice a week for the past three years now.
The opening of the center was graced by Palomar, Sangguniang Bayan member Committee on Health chair Bob Gardose, Municipal Health Officer Dr. Chad Bryan Hilado, the center’s physician-on-duty, Dr. Mischelle Tanteo, Tapaz Public Information Officer Stephen Faeldin, RHU staff and center personnel.
