CAPIZ – The Capiz Provincial Government has declared the entire province under a state of calamity on Friday, May 24.
This comes after the order of Gov. Fredenil Castro and recommendation of the Capiz Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMO) to declare a state of calamity due to the extent of damage to agriculture caused by the prolonged dry spell.
The El Niño phenomenon has so far caused about P380 million in agriculture losses in this province.
The Capiz Provincial Agriculturist Office said the amount represents the damage inflicted by the dry spell on 6,403 hectares of farmland, affecting 7,930 farmers, across 17 municipalities as of May 22.
Of the affected farmlands, 2,122 hectares were totally damaged and 4,280 hectares were partially damaged./PN
