CAPIZ – Philippine Red Cross (PRC)-Capiz is calling for blood volunteer donors.
Ketch Armiza, donor recruitment officer of PRC-Capiz, said the province’s blood supply is almost depleted or critically low.
Armiza said those who are willing to donate blood may coordinate with them through landline number 6211-125 or to their respective barangay or Rural Health Center to know the blood donation activity schedule of the community/barangay.
Others may also make a donation appointment at the PRC blood center.
Armiza said the blood supply of the province was greatly affected because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
He said they had lots of scheduled bloodletting activities but it was gradually cancelled due to the threats of the COVID-19 among the participants.
PRC-Capiz is now coordinating with the local government units to strengthen the blood donation program of the province.
Armiza noted that during normal days, the blood center can release 30 units of blood per day or at least 900 units for over 300 requesting patients per month.
Prior to the pandemic, Armiza said the blood center can cater almost all those who need blood but with the depleting supply, they can only accommodate 4 out of 10 patients who need blood./PN
