Capiz’s two local COVID-19 Delta variant cases recover

CAPIZ – The two local Delta variant cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in this province have already recovered, according to Gov. Esteban Evan Contreras.

The two – a 59-year-old female from Jamindan town and a 36-year-old male from Tapaz town – were part of the 31 Delta variant cases tagged to Western Visayas on Aug. 6 based on the result of the Whole Genome Sequencing (WGC) released by the University of the Philippines – Philippine Genome Center.

Citing a report from Acting Provincial Health Officer (PHO) Ramon Alex Nolasco, Contreras said the cases were properly coordinated with their respective local government units and were managed accordingly.

The two were declared recovered on July 22 and July 27, respectively.

Contreras and Nolasco said the PHO, along with 17 local health offices, 10 hospitals and two molecular laboratories in Capiz, is intensifying requests for WGS procedures among qualified individuals as per existing guidelines of the DOH.

“We continue to appeal to our partners, stakeholders, fellow leaders, and the general public to unceasingly support our initiatives in the fight against COVID-19, especially the ongoing vaccination program,” Contreras said.

Aside from the Delta variant, the province also logged one case of Alpha variant and two cases of Beta variant.

The one infected by the Alpha variant was a 65-year-old male from Cuartero, Capiz. He died on July 16 ahead of his genome sequencing result which was released on Aug. 5. He had a history of travel to Iloilo and was detected therein.

Meantime, two cases of Beta variant already recovered –  a 28-year-old male returning overseas Filipino from Tapaz town and a 39-year-old male returning resident from Roxas City. Both have histories of travel to Manila./PN
