BACOLOD City – One of two 13-year-old bikers died after getting hit by a car driven by a priest in Purok Langka, Barangay Caridad, Bago City, Negros Occidental.

Grade 7 student Hero Manait Melliza and cousin Francis Melliza Maguad – both residents of the village – were taken to the Bago City Hospital but Melliza was pronounced β€œdead on arrival.”

The car driver – Reverend Father Ritchel Bandiola Labiana, 34, of the Our Lady of the Pillar Parish in Barangay Ma-ao, Bago City – turned himself in to the police.

Investigation showed the Mazda car (plate number FDM-399) accidentally hit the preceding bikers when the priest was distracted by the glaring headlights of an incoming vehicle running the opposite direction.

The incident happened along a highway at around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The injured Maguad was later moved to the Riverside Medical Center in this city for further treatment./PN
