MANILA – Talk N’ Text (TNT) Tropang Giga  forward Harvey Carey has called it a career after 17 seasons of playing in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), all of which was spent with the franchise.

Carey’s retirement was confirmed by Tropang Giga team manager Gabby Cui as the Filipino-American forward has decided to stay with his family in the United States.

“We would like to thank Harvey for everything he has done for the team. He has been a consummate leader, proven winner, great teammate and an excellent basketball player,” Cui said.

Carey, a native of San Francisco, California and product of Sonoma State, was selected no.4 overall by TNT in the 2003 PBA Rookie Draft. He was part of the franchise’s first-ever PBA championship that year. He ended his career with seven titles.

The six-foot-nine forward was selected to play in the PBA All-Star Games in 2011, named as part of the Mythical Second Team in 2003 and also included in the All-Defensive team in 2007. His last season with the Tropang Giga was during the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup bubble where the team bagged the runner-up title behind Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings.

Carey was a proud member of both the 1,000 offensive rebounds and 2,000 defensive rebounds club. He has career averages of 6.9 points and 6.7 rebounds.

“While management regrets losing Harvey, who has been a great teammate and leads by example, helped us win championships,” TNT board of governor and PBA chairman Ricardo Vargas said in a statement.

“I am personally grateful to Harvey for his loyalty, honesty, and contributions to the team. He has been a quiet pillar of strength in building the TNT culture,” he added. “We do fully understand and appreciate the motivation of Harvey to stay with his family in the USA.” /PN
