MANILA – Carl Tamayo stepped up offensively as Changwon LG Sakers pulled off a 74-72 victory over Suwon KT Sonicboom in the Korean Basketball League on Saturday at the Changwon Gymnasium.
The Gilas Pilipinas forward finished with 20 points on 9-of-16 field goal shooting to go with six rebounds and five assists as the LG Sakers moved up to a 12-10 win-loss record.
Assem Marei added a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Jang Min-guk contributed six points, including a game-winning three-pointer in the dying seconds of the match.
“The players worked hard on defense and also implemented the defensive changes well,” LG coach Cho Sang-hyun said after the game. “It was a game created by the players.”
Rayshaun Hammonds finished with 18 points, while Moon Jeong-hyeon and Ha Yoon-ki contributed 12 and 11 markers, respectively, as the Sonicboom fell to a 13-10 win-loss mark.
Meanwhile, Negrense Samjosef Belangel and Daegu Korea Gas Corporation Pegasus returned to their winning ways with a 76-73 victory over Goyang Sono Skygunners at the Daegu Gymnasium.
The former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles guard finished with 12 points, five assists, three steals, and one rebound before being held late in the game due to an undisclosed injury.
“Belangel’s injury doesn’t seem that bad. I didn’t want to overdo it and make it worse,” Pegasus head coach Kang Hyuk said on the Negrense guard’s benching late in the game.
Andrew Nicholson led the way with 31 points and eight rebounds, while Kim added 11 markers as the Pegasus improved to a 13-9 win-loss slate.
Alpha Cava tallied a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds, Lee Jae-do and Lee Jong-hyun added 15 markers apiece, and Jun Lee-Keun contributed 13 as Goyang dropped to an 8-14 mark./PN
