MANILA – Filipino gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo aims for improved performance when he vies for the floor exercise and vault gold medals in the 2024 Paris Olympics men’s artistic gymnastics this weekend in Paris, France.
According to Yulo, his performance during the individual all-around finals on Wednesday night (Thursday morning in the Philippines) gave him an idea on what adjustments he needs to make heading into his last two competitions.
“Marami kasing magaling, kailangan kong tapatan ‘yung execution nilang lahat,” Yulo said in an interview with ABS-CBN’s Dyan Castillejo. “Nagfo-focus po ako sa magiging performance, mindset ko sa araw na iyon.”
Yulo is scheduled to compete in men’s floor exercise finals at 9 p.m. tonight (Saturday), while he will also participate in the vault apparatus finals 10:25 p.m. on Sunday.
“I feel okay sa vault (routine) pero feeling ko may igaganda pa po. Magfo-focus po ako sa training at try kong i-replicate siya sa competition,” said the two-time Olympian.
During the individual all-around finale, the many-time Southeast Asian Games gold medal winner finished with 14.333 points in the floor exercise event and ended up with 14.766 in the vault apparatus.
Yulo tallied 11.900 points after he stumbled upon his dismount from the pommel horse before getting a score of 13.933 in the rings, 14.500 in the parallel bars and 13.600 in the horizontal bar for a total of 83.032, good for 12th place.
“Madami akong natutunan sa pagiging all-arounder. Masaya naman po ako sa ginawa kong performance, walang regrets,” Yulo said.
“Sobrang grateful talaga ako sa nagawa ko ‘yung performance, although hindi perfect, pero may natutunan ako na magagamit ko sa finals round,” he added./PN
