Cascolan ‘honored’ being among 3 PNP chief bets

Lieutenant General Camilo Prancratius Cascolan

ILOILO City – Lieutenant General Camilo Prancratius Cascolan said he was “honored and thankful” being included in the list of candidates for the next Philippine National Police (PNP) director.

Cascolan, the current chief of PNP’s directorial staff at Camp Crame, said this during his visit at the Police Regional Office 6 headquarters yesterday.

But he added that it is still premature to assume things.

“Whether PNP chief or not, we still have to work. Trabaho ang gagawin natin para sa peace and order ng ating bansa,” said Cascolan.

PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde will retire on his 56th birthday on Nov. 8, 2019.

Albayalde recently announced three possible successors when he steps down. They include Cascolan, Metro Manila police chief Guillermo Eleazar, and PNP deputy chief for operations Archie Gamboa.

Eleazar will retire on Nov. 13, 2021 while Cascolan, on Nov. 10, 2020 and Gamboa, on Sep. 2, 2020.

The PNP chief is appointed by the President. The appointment then needs confirmation from the Commission on Appointments.

Cascolan was assigned in Westeren Visayas when he was still a lieutenant. He is married to an Ilongga from the town of Sta. Barbara./PN
