ILOILO City – Cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever in this southern city from January to March this year were 81 percent down from last year’s cases in the same period.
The City Health Office – City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CHO-CESU) data showed 12 cases of dengue with zero death from Jan. 1 to March 5 this year – way lower than 2021’s 64 cases (with zero deaths also).
For this year, the 12 cases were in Jaro district (five), Mandurriao (three) and Arevalo, Lapuz, City Proper, and La Paz (one each).
Molo district registered zero dengue case so far.
The CHO said there is no barangay with clustering of dengue cases.
Data further showed the specific barangays with dengue cases – Bonifacio (Arevalo), Rizal Pala-pala II, San Pedro (Jaro), Balabago, Buntatala, Cubay, Tabuc Suba (Jaro), McArthur, Loboc-Lapuz, Bakhaw, Guzman Jesena, and PHHC Block 17 NHA, all with one case each.
The age range of dengue cases this year is six months to 55 years old but the age group most affected is one to 10 years old with a total of nine cases.
Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection causing a severe flu-like illness that could sometimes be fatal. Its carriers are day-biting mosquitoes (Aedes albpictus and Aedes aegypti) that live and breed and clean, stagnant water./PN
