New Energy captures Liu & Su caging
By CYRUS M. GARDE
BACOLOD City — The New Energy Mktg./Shakey’s 2010–12 defeated Terra Dolce/PO’s Digital Legends (1992 and earlier), 89-70, to capture their first-ever title in the 6th Msgr. John Liu & Msgr. John Su Basketball Memorial Cup played at the Msgr. John Liu Activity Center.
New Energy held on to the game all the way to the end — it took the first quarter, 21-20; second quarter, 39-28; and ended the half, 42-39, and never looked back.
New Energy’s Allen Dionela was the Most Valuable Player. His 5 points in the championship was enough to convince his fellow players to choose him as MVP.
Jappy Cuaycong top-scored with 14 points; Zoey Pandan added 10; Joshua Chua, 8; while Michael Herdon and Daniel Ong joined Dionela with 5 points each.
Peewee Demonteverde scored 33 huge points; Chris Javelosa added 9; Bol Manaloto hit 8; and Mark Yee had 6.
New Energy’s bridesmaid in the last three editions of the SJI (St. John’s Institute) Alumni team finally got the monkey off its back to defeat Terra Dolce.
Two years ago, Terra Dolce won its first title at the expense of New Energy.
This year’s Memorial Cup is managed by Silver Dragon Batch 1993–95 headed by Christian Castro, Mark Cueva, Wilford Sy, and Alex Fernandez./PN
