Caticlan, Cagban port employees to undergo retraining

MALAY, Aklan – Port employees and security personnel of Caticlan and Cagban ports in Malay, Aklan will undergo refresher training on values formation and security this August.

Port Administrator Esel Flores said the retraining should improve the skills and competence of frontliners as well as the two ports’ management, operation and security.

“These initiatives will improve our security and most importantly our service to tourists and residents,” he added.

Caticlan port is the jump-off point to Boracay Island while Cagban port is the arrival port in Boracay.

Caticlan port handles more than 900,000 tourists from January to July as the government eased travel restrictions.

The port is expected to become busier in the years ahead with the resumption of regional flights at the Kalibo International Airport.

Flores said the ports also strive to cope with the growing demand of passengers at the height of coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Following the impact of pandemic on air travel, the port developments in Malay, Aklan have been halted as the provincial government prioritized health and safety of its residents to control the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Port development should be addressed through capital outlay to maintain existing facilities and expand airport infrastructure,” Flores said./PN
