CDEU looking into ‘drugs involvement’ of brgy officials

BY DOMINIQUE GABRIEL G. BAÑAGA

BACOLOD City – The City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) will validate information regarding barangay officials who are allegedly involved in illegal drug activities.

CDEU head, Police Lieutenant Joven Mogato, said they will regard such information as mere hearsay until validated.

Some people are just trying to ruin the names of incumbent village officials to further their personal interests, he pointed out.

The CDEU received information that some barangay officials were either using or selling illegal drugs, or protecting druggies.

Earlier this month, Barangay Alijis kagawad Abby Araneta was arrested. Police seized two knot-tied and 13 plastic sachets of suspected shabu with a combined weight of 201 grams and valued at P1,366,800.

Araneta was a former Sangguniang Kabataan chairperson and presently on her second term as a barangay council member./PN
