Amateur band Lilith from Cagayan de Oro City bested four other groups from Luzon and Visayas after it emerged as grand winner during the Red Horse Beer’s Pambansang Muziklaban championship held at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center in Bulacan recently.
The grand champion received P.5 million and opportunities to perform in chosen Red Horse Beer events.
Now on its 20th year, the annual event culminated with the clash of the best amateur bands from all over the country, highlighting their talent and ability to come up with original compositions that are unique, catchy and groundbreaking.
This year, the rockfest featured Lakas and Aklas categories where five finalists competed for each category. Lakas bannered bands that cater to hard heavy rock music enthusiasts while Aklas was designed for bands who dig alternative music pieces.
All finalist-bands were mentored by idol bands Slapshock, Greyhoundz, Wilabaliw, Chicosci, Razorback, Parokya ni Edgar, Gloc 9, Kjwan and Mayonnaise. The Building-a-Rakista component was introduced four years ago for the finalists to have a holistic approach in their transformation as they get rock-style makeovers and sharpen their image, bearing, performance and sound identity.
