Cebu journo covering Degamo slay dies in road mishap

BACOLOD City – A reporter from a Cebu-based media outlet died in a road accident.

The 23-year-old Pegeen Sararaña was in Negros Oriental covering the slaying of Gov. Roel Degamo and eight others for the Cebu Daily News.

Sararaña was on a motorcycle with her boyfriend, Niel Ian Balcobero, in Barangay Tampi, San Jose, Negros Oriental at around 3:10 p.m. on Sunday, March 12.

They were rammed by an overtaking truck driven by 27-year-old Nielric Gaso.

Sararaña was rushed to the Negros Polymedic Hospital in Sibulan, Negros Oriental.

She succumbed to multiple head injuries around 9:14 p.m. on Monday.

Balcobero, meanwhile, did not suffer any injuries.

Gaso surrendered to the Amlan Municipal Police Station but was released after the 18-hour reglementary period./PN
