CEBU Pacific continues to push for sustainable tourism as it rolls out the second module for Juan Effect in Boracay, in time for the impending reopening of one of the most beautiful islands in the Philippines. The airline donates trash bins for use around the island to encourage proper waste management amongst locals and tourists alike.
Cebu Pacific, together with the Philippine Department of Tourism, Department of Environmental and Natural Resources, and Department of Interior and Local Government, gather for a ceremonial turnover of bins to the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO). The bins were manufactured using upcycled waste plastic materials, including 1.8 kilograms of laminated wrappers—roughly equivalent to 789 snack packs.
Cebu Pacific will also be reducing its flights to Caticlan, in cooperation with the government’s efforts to limit tourist arrivals.
Since its launch last July 31, 2018, Cebu Pacific has already rolled out initiatives in Siargao, right before its peak tourist season. The airline has also replaced all its non-recyclable utensils inflight with eco-friendly ones for meals and refreshments.
The Juan Effect aims to encourage responsible travel among passengers, and empower everyone to change at least one everyday habit. At the same time, this program also engages with local stakeholders for a more collaborative effort towards the conservation of the environment.
