MANILA — Cebu Pacific said on Friday that it raised over $1 million (P51.3 million) from spare change donated by passengers and staff as part of its initiative to help improve the health and nutrition of Filipino children.
The country’s largest carrier said the “Change for Good” initiative also marked the fourth year of its partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
“We commend our staff and crew and most of all, our passengers, for their contributions which have now reached the one-million-dollar mark…the amount is a testament of the public’s support in sharing the vision of UNICEF and the airline for a healthier future for our children,” said Cebu Pacific’s president and CEO Lance Gokongwei.
Under the project, passengers are encouraged to help fund UNICEF’s “First 1,000 days” health and nutrition program for young kids through donations, the statement said.
The funds collected will help fund the project which was launched in line with the Republic Act 11148 or the Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng Mag-nanay Act, known as the First 1,000 Days Law, the airline said.
“Now, mothers and children in every barangay can have better access to basic services starting from conception until the child is 2 years old,” said UNICEF deputy representative Julia Rees.
The global Change for Good initiate, a UNICEF project with the airline industry, had raised over $156 million. (ABS-CBN News)
