MANILA – Filipina skateboarder Margielyn Didal captured the gold medal in the 7th Annual Exposure Women Skate competition at the Encinitas Community Park in Encinitas, California, USA.
Didal, a native of Lahug, Cebu City, dominated the Street Pro category on Monday, garnering the highest score among opponents from across the country. She took home the $7,000 top prize.
“So hyped to skate. Luckily (I) got the first place,” Didal, who also bagged gold in the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia, wrote on Facebook.
“I just want to thank everyone who made my campaign here in California possible.”
Dubbed as the biggest in the world for women’s skateboarding, the tournament had a total cash purse of $60,000.
Exposure Skate is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empower women through skateboarding.
It creates opportunities for women by organizing events that provide all-female professional and amateur skateboarding competitions, learn-to-skate clinics, and wellness education.
Proceeds from the three-day California tournament will be given to survivors of domestic violence./PN
