ILOILO – A 16-year-old girl from Barangay Sulangan, Dumangas, Iloilo accused three young men of gang banging her on the first night of the new year.

It was a New Year bang she said she did not expect or welcome. And of all places, it was carried out at the cemetery of San Enrique town.

The girl sought the help of the San Enrique police station late Sunday night. She said she was able to escape from her attackers.

Acting on the information the girl provided, San Enrique policemen proceeded to the cemetery and found one man there – the 21-year-old Jay-R Luking of Barangay Kompo, San Enrique. He was fast asleep on top of one of the tombs.

According to the girl, she was taken to the cemetery around 7 p.m.

Luking confessed to the gang rape and named his two other companions – the Paca-onses brothers Jeffrey, 21, and Mark Jason, 19. Both were residents of Barangay Kompo, too.

From what the San Enrique police so far gathered, the girl met a text mate in Barangay Garrita, San Enrique and at dusk was in Barangay Poblacion hoping to catch a ride back home.

There, the three men managed to convince her that a tricycle ride going home was okay; it was New Year and very few buses or passenger jeepneys were making trips.

“But instead of driving her to Dumangas, they took her to the cemetery in Barangay Poblacion Ilawod,” said Chief Inspector Herman Celiz Jr., San Enrique police chief.

The girl told the police she lost consciousness after one of the men hit her when she fought back.

When she regained consciousness, the girl said she was already naked. She put on her dress and ran out of the cemetery.

“She asked assistance from barangay officials near the cemetery,” said Celiz, and the police station was alerted.

One of those who extended help was Barangay Kagawad Ruby Bellira whose house was near the cemetery.

“They saw the girl running out of the cemetery and sensed something was wrong. The girl was not a familiar face in their barangay,” said Celiz.

As of this writing, San Enrique policemen were looking for the two Paca-Onses brothers.

Luking was detained at the San Enrique police station.

In a radio interview, the girl’s mother said she did not know her daughter went to San Enrique but admitted the girl had a boyfriend there.

“Amo na ang textmate ‘ya,” said the mother.

The mother also hinted having a testy relationship with her daughter, a former student of Dumangas National High School.

“Amo na gani ang problema ko halin pa ‘ni sang nagliligad…kay lagawan. Naga-eskwela na sia Grade 10 pero ginpa-untat ko (She was a problem child. She can’t stay put. She was in Grade 10 but does not attend classes so I had her stop going to school),” said the mother.

The girl was subjected to medical examination. The San Enrique police said the results were yet to be released./PN
