Cemetery visits in WV peaceful – PNP

ILOILO City – This year’s observance of All Saints’ Day (Nov. 1) and All Souls’ Day (Nov. 2) was generally orderly and peaceful across Western Visayas.

This was the assessment of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) as there was no untoward incident recorded as of 3 p.m. on Saturday.

“So far it was peaceful. We maintain our vigilance and no letup in our security operations,” said PRO-6 director Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan.

According to Pamuspusan, no significant incident happened in the region except for those who were reprimanded for bringing items prohibited inside the cemetery.

In Iloilo City, police director Colonel Martin Defensor said they apprehended at least 59 cemetery goers for bringing banned things such as deadly weapons.

Of the 59, seven were caught in Aglipay Cemetery City Proper; seven in La Paz Public Cemetery; 46 in Molo Catholic Cemetery and two in Mandurriao Catholic Cemetery.

Defensor said the seized items include deadly weapons, cigarettes, paints, liquor, barbeque sticks, blades, screw drivers, and pointed objects. Those who were caught were permitted to go after they justified to the police why they have deadly weapons.

On the other hand, Iloilo Police Provincial director Colonel Roland Vilela disclosed that as of 4 p.m.  yesterday, they recorded no untoward incidents.

“We have enough personnel to man our cemeteries and transport terminals. We have force multipliers who augmented to our organic police personnel,” Vilela said./PN
