BACOLOD City â Again, Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) increased its power rate.
Consumer-members will be charged P10.8746 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for their January billing.
This is P0.8428 higher than the P10.0318 last month, said General Manager Sulpicio Lagarde Jr.
âThe upward adjustment…can be attributed to the increase in the purchase cost, and the charges in generation, transmission and systems loss in the amount of P0.6016, P0.0315 and P0.0855, respectively,â he said.
Lagarde again reminded Ceneco member-consumers to conserve electricity.
Previously the Ceneco general manager said there is an expected increase in their rate for the February-March billing after the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion law raised excise taxes on coal.
But Lagarde said he could not say for certain how much the increase will be until its supplier bills the power distribution utility.
âPossibly about 5 centavos per kWh [will be added to the rate],â he said.
Lagarde noted that 80 percent of the power supply Ceneco generates from its supplier is from coal.
Specifically, of its power base load, 99 megawatts are coal-powered and 20 megawatts are geothermal-powered, he added.
He also warned that, because of higher excise taxes, coal may end up being more costly than geothermal and hydro power./PN
