Ceneco rates down

BACOLOD City – There would be a decrease of P2.0814 per kilowatt hour (kWh) in the power rates of Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) for this month’s billing due to the reduction in generation, transmission, system loss charges and other pass-on charges.

The rate for October is P10.1788/kWh, compared to last month’s P12.2602/kWh.

Jojit Yap, Ceneco president, said the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) price decreased from P14.1843 to P4.2601 recently due to the “stabilization of power source”.

The spike in generation charges in the past months was a result of an increase in the market price due to the damaged submarine cables of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines connecting the islands of Negros and Cebu, said Ceneco general manager Danny Pondevilla.

Consumers will get a refund following the order of the Energy Regulatory Commission to the Philippine Electricity Market Corp. to defer congestion charges, he added.

The refund would reflect on consumers’ bills next month./PN
