Centenarians in Iloilo to get more cash incentives

ILOILO City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) has unanimously approved an ordinance granting additional benefits and privileges to centenarians in this city.

On Thursday, the SP passed the ordinance amending Regulation Ordinance 2017-053, otherwise known as “Ilonggo Centenarian Ordinance” that provides additional incentives to the senior citizens.

Under the amended version, the elderly upon reaching the age of 80 will already be entitled to receive P10,000;  P20,000 upon reaching 90 years old and P50,000 upon turning 100 years old.

“Many of these senior citizens failed to avail the privilege of Centenarian Act of 2016 from government, when they could enjoy life at age of 80 years old,” the ordinance read.

The amended ordinance authored by Councilor Maria Irene Ong, emphasized that the act of granting incentives to senior citizens at reduced age are all aimed at giving them the opportunity to enjoy their later years and not just wait to reach 100 years.

Accordingly, from P1-million appropriated fund every year for the implementation of the ordinance, it was increased to P3 million every year thereafter./PN
