ILOILO City – Vendors at the Iloilo Central Market and Iloilo Terminal Market received free medical and dental services as part of an initiative aimed at supporting their health ahead of the markets’ reopening in June.
The medical mission, organized by SM Foundation Inc. (SMFI) on April 2 in collaboration with the city government, offered hundreds of vendors free consultations, laboratory tests, minor treatments, tooth extractions, and health education.
Volunteers from the Iloilo City Health Office, including doctors, dentists, and nurses, also provided free medicines, vitamins, and hygiene kits.
For many vendors, who often face challenges accessing healthcare due to their long working hours, the event was a much-needed opportunity to prioritize their well-being without incurring costs.
As preparations continue for the reopening of the newly renovated Tienda Mayor (Central) and Tienda Super (Terimnal) in June, both the city government and SMFI have reiterated their support to the health and livelihoods of market vendors, who play a vital role in the local economy./PN
