BACOLOD City – Vallacar Transit Incorporated (VTI), owner and operator of Ceres bus liners, said they will continue their operations here and in Negros Occidental during the jeepney strike on March 21 and 22.
Jade Seballos, public relations officer for VTI, said the Provincial Buses Association of the Philippines (PBAP) will not participate in the strike, citing its negative effects.
Seballos also pointed out that they cannot stop operations as it would be against the policies set by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
At present, the VTI management is also discussing a possible fare hike with PBAP and if they come into agreement, they will immediately forward the fare proposal to the LTFRB.
Transport groups in Bacolod City and in Negros Occidental announced they will conduct a “transport holiday” from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. of March 21 and 22 in response to the incessant oil price hikes.
Transport groups are currently demanding the national government to lift the 12 percent value added tax (VAT) and excise tax on fuel./PN
