MANILA – Ceres Negros aims to seal its second straight championship when it faces Global Cebu in the 2018 Philippines Football League on Wednesday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

With 51 points on 16-2-3 win-loss-draw record, the Busmen will need just a win or a draw in their match at 7 p.m. even if they still have three games in their schedule after tonight.

Ceres assistant coach Ian Treyes said they are determined to clinch the title so they can shift their focus to their ASEAN zonal finals match in the AFC Cup next month.

“We are focused on our next game against Global. We cannot take them for granted. Hopefully we can perform well and win,” Treyes said.

“We saw how Global drew against Davao (Aguilas) last week. They’re still a strong team. We have new players. It will be a challenge for us,” added Treyes, a former University of St. La Salle standout.

Just last Saturday Ceres also faced off with Global. The Busmen clobbered the Cebu team 7-1.

Bienvenido Marañon fired two goals while Curt Dizon, Blake Powell, Jose Elmer Porteria, Omid Nazari, and Martin Steuble added a goal each for the defending champion.

Global – currently at the tail-end of the rankings with 5 points on one win, 10 losses and two deadlocks – hopes to salvage some pride in its last few matches./PN
