MANILA – Ceres-Negros FC continued its winning run in the 2019 Philippines Football League. It posted a 2-0 victory over the Green Archers United FC at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
With the victory on Sunday, the defending champions Busmen moved up to solo first place in the standings for the first time this season with 22 points on seven victories and one draw.
Ceres-Negros entered the scoring column as early as the seventh minute with Green Archers United’s Fredy Mbang committing an own goal on a save of Busmen Stephan Schrock’s attempt.
The Busmen had opportunities to widen the lead but Schrock, Mike Ott and Dylan de Bruycker misfired.
The Green Archers United also had its chances but failed to penetrate past the defense of Ceres-Negros keeper Roland Muller.
Ceres-Negros clinched its second goal as Ott picked the ball from outside of the box before hitting it in.
Green Archers United could have pulled one back before the break but Alem Angeles’ header was wayward.
Green Archers United continued to take chance on Muller’s defense in the second half but could not get the needed opening. Schrock also had chances to make it 3-0 but was off target.
With the defeat, the Green Archers United remained at fourth place in the standings with 14 points, on four wins, two draws and three losses./PN
