MANILA – Ceres-Negros FC was forced to another draw by the Stallion Laguna FC after settling for a 1-1 outcome in their 2019 Philippines Football League match over the weekend at the Biñan Football Stadium in Laguna.

But despite the draw, the defending champions’ second this season, they are still way ahead in the standings with 50 points and will need to win three of their last five matches to secure a third straight League title.

Robert Lopez Mendy found the back of the net early for the Busmen as he headed in a cross from Sean Kane, who controlled his way into the box to confuse defenders before releasing the ball to the former.

Stallion Laguna, however, had a quick response three minutes later. They released Abou Sy on a counter that allowed the striker to shoot past the defense of Ceres-Negros keeper Roland Muller.

Since then, both teams had their chances to score a go ahead goal but the defense tightened. Lopez Mendy had the final chance to surge Ceres Negros ahead but his volley of a James Younghusband cross went straight into the keeper.

“We started good but with the equalizer and the weather, we had a hard time in finding solutions,” said Muller. “At the end of the day its 1-1 and we’re still unbeaten. Now were looking forward to Wednesday.”

Stallion Laguna remained at third spot in the standings with 33 points, on nine wins, six draws and five losses./PN
