MANILA – Ceres-Negros FC aims to vent its ire on lowly Mendiola 1991 FC when they return to 2019 Philippines Football League action tonight at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium here.
Heading into the match slated at seven in the evening the Busmen is at fourth spot in the standings with seven points on two wins and a draw, while Mendiola is at sixth spot with one point on one draw and three losses.
This will be the Negros Occidental-based football team’s first PFL match since June 1 when they scored an 8-0 victory over Global Makati FC with half of the conversions coming from Spanish striker Bienvenido Marañon.
Even with the lengthy break, however, Ceres-Negros is not expected to be rusty and is even determined after suffering a 3-2 aggregate loss to Hanoi FC in the zonal semifinals of the 2019 AFC Cup earlier this week.
Mendiola, on their part, has yet to find their groove following a 6-3 defeat at the hands of Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo on June 19 while also seeing their previous match against Global Makati got abandoned.
In the curtain-raiser at four in the afternoon, Kaya Futbol-Club Iloilo aims to solidify its hold on the top spot of the standings when it tangles with cellar-dwelling Philippine Air Force FC.
The Ilonggos are currently enjoying their view on the top with 12 points after winning all of their four matches so far, while the Air Force has yet to register a win in their return to professional football and was able to just score a draw in five outings.
Kaya-Iloilo was impressive in their final outing nine days ago against the Mendiola where Jordan Mintah spearheaded the attack with three hits, while the Air Force were coming from a 3-0 loss to Stallion-Laguna FC./PN
