CERES Negros Football Club is in a must-win situation when it faces FC Istiklol of Tajikistan in the second leg of the 2017 AFC Cup inter-zone semifinals tonight at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.

The Negros Occidental-based club will need at least a five-goal victory to turn things around following its 0-4 defeat to FC Istiklol on Aug. 22 at the Hisor Central Stadium in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

Akhtan Nazarov and Romish Jalilov scored a goal each in the opening half before Manuchekhr Dzhalilov deepened the hole further for Ceres Negros with back-to-back hits for the home team in the second half.

“We expect another tough game from them,” said Ceres Negros head coach Risto Vidakovic. “We will do our best to play better than we can. We will try to reach a better result.”

Ceres Negros midfielder Kevin Ingreso promised to do their best in front of their Negrense fans.

“I think it will be a very tough game. This is the part of the AFC Cup where the teams are already champions of different zones, so I guess it will be a very, very difficult and hard game. But I think we are prepared,” Ingreso said.

Also among Ceres Negros players are Stephan Schrock, Luke Woodland, Bienvenido Marañon, Manuel Herrera, Fernando Rodriguez, Michael Casas, Iain Ramsay, Jose Elmer Porteria, and Manuel Ott.

The winner in the Ceres-Istiklol series will face the winner between Bengaluru FC of India and Thailand in the inter-zone finals later this year./PN
