MANILA – The Ceres-La Salle Football Club clinched its second straight win in the 2016 United Football League by dominating Laos Football Club, 8-0, on Wednesday night at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Stephan Schrock led the way with a hat-trick, as Adrian Gallardo-Valdes added two goals, while Olapido Okunaiya, Jeffrey Christiaens and Nathaniel Burkey contributed a conversion each for the defending champions Ceres-La Salle.
After consecutive misses to start the match, Ceres-La Salle finally notched a goal in the 15th minute as Okunaiya scored from a pass by Gallardo-Valdes. It was quickly doubled as Schrock drained a header.
Just before the halftime break, Ceres-La Salle racked in three more goals, a close range shot by Gallardo Valdes, a shot from deep by Christiaens and another hit by Gallardo-Valdes for a 5-0 score.
Ceres-La Salle continued its scoring spree in the second half as Burkey contributed close range baskets while Schrock completed his hat-trick with two goals from inside the box.
With the victory, the Bacolod City-based Ceres-La Salle strengthened its hold on the second spot with 38 points on a 12-3-2 win-loss-draw slate. Laos remained at last place with three points on a 2-14-1 record.
Meanwhile, the UFL is set to hold its first-ever out-of-town match this conference with the Loyola Meralco Sparks Football Club battling the Green Archers United Globe Football Club in Zamboanga City tonight.
The Loyola Meralco Sparks, which is led by Phil and James Younghusband, is at fourth place with 34 points, while the Green Archers United Globe is at sixth place with 27 points./PN
