MANILA – Today, Ceres Negros FC of the Philippines is facing off with Shan United of Myanmar in the 2018 AFC Champions League Qualifiers at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon.

Despite having a short time to prepare for the opening match at 5:30 p.m., Ceres Negros head coach Risto Vidakovic is optimistic that his squad will perform well.

“It’s really a tough challenge for the team, with the (Philippines Football League) ending quite late and our players have to go on vacation for the holidays,” Vidakovic said. “But I have faith in my players.”

But the road will not be easy for Ceres Negros – if it defeats Shan United, it will go through Brisbane Roar of Australia and Tiankin Quajin of China to qualify to the group stage.

Expected to lead Ceres Negros are Bienvenido Marañon, Louie Casas, Patrick Reichelt, Omid Nazari, Kevin Ingreso, Manuel Ott, OJ Porteria, Stephan Schröck, Martin Steuble, Manuel Herrera, Carli de Murga, Jim Junior Muñoz, and Jeffrey Christiaens.

Also in the team are Negros Occidental-based players Eduard Sacapaño, Nessi Ramos, Joshua Dutosme, and Arnie Pasinabo.

Making their debut in the 2017 PFL champion are Spanish goalkeeper Toni Doblas, Mike Ott, and former JP Voltes Marikina players Sean Patrick Kane and Takumi Uesato.

“It will be another tight schedule for us this year,” Ceres Negros team manager James Dinsay said. “I hope our fans will continue to support us in our quest to bring pride and honor to the province (Negros Occidental) and the country.”/PN
