MANILA – Petro Gazz Angels have completed their massive roster overhaul ahead of the 2021 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) after signing up Frances Xinia Molina and Mary Remy Palma.
The Angels announced through their social media accounts on Tuesday night the acquisition of Molina and Palma, who were both part of Petron Blaze Spikers, which took a leave in the Philippine Superliga.
Molina, a former San Beda University Lady Red Spikers standout, will be wearing a new club jersey for the first time since 2014. She was part of the Blaze Spikers’ six PSL championships.
Molina, who played in the past two editions of the Southeast Asian Games, is expected to play a huge role on the Angels’ offense, just like what she did during her stint with the Blaze Spikers.
Palma, a former Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws mainstay, will also add boost to the Petro Gazz’s middle blocker position following her impressive stint with the Blaze Spikers.
Molina and Palma were the fifth and sixth addition in the Angels roster after previously inking Kath Arado, Seth Rodriguez, Marivic Meneses, and Mary Ann Mendrez.
Gone from the Angels are outside hitter Jonah Sabete; middle blockers Jeanette Panaga and Cherry Nunag; opposite hitter Kai Nepomuceno-Baloaloa; and outside hitter Jovie Prado.
Among the five departures, Panaga has found a new home in Creamline Cool Smashers while Nunag will sign with Perlas Lady Spikers.
Meanwhile, the Angels also signed assistant coach Yani Fernandez of the University of Santo Tomas to help head coach Arnold Laniog in building the chemistry of their revamped roster for the Open Conference.
The Petro Gazz is one of the eight teams competing in the 2021 PVL season aside from Creamline Cool Smashers, Choco Mucho, Perlas Spikers, Motolite, BaliPure, Chef’s Classic, Air Force, and Army./PN
