Charter Day mass today

ILOILO City’s 82nd Charter Day celebration climaxes today with an 8 a.m. mass at the Freedom Grandstand.

Mayor Jerry Treñas decided to do away with the usual grand parade during the highlight and opted for a modest yet meaningful celebration amid rising dengue cases and a sea disaster in the Iloilo Strait recently.

The mass, to be officiated by San Jose de Placer Church parish priest Fr. Raymundo Edsel Alcayaga, will be offered to those affected by calamities as well as to keep the Ilonggos safe from challenging times.

Showcasing the rich and colorful Ilonggo culture, Paindis-indis sa Binalaybay 2019 winner Nanzrine Balsomo will deliver the winning piece in sweet-sounding Hiligaynon during the culmination program.

Winners of theCharter Day Basketball Tournament will be awarded afterwards.

This year’s Charter Day theme “Responsible and Responsive Governance” highlights the efficient and effective delivery of public service to address people’s needs.

“I ask everyone’s help for the city to level up. Let us make it easier for the people to avail themselves of the city government’s services,” said Treñas.

In lieu of entertainment and extravagant cultural presentations, the metropolis will initiate an environmental endeavor geared towards a healthy and livable place for all.

Treñas will lead the launching of the Clean and Green Project, the city’s share to cushion the impacts of climate change and global warming by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprints.

This is one of the city’s initiatives to promote inclusivity and a call for positive and results-oriented actions benefiting the majority.

The city government has initiated an inclusive hosting and staging of undertakings to enjoin people’s participation and multi-sectoral stakeholders’ support to various programs and projects./PN
