CHED soon to operate prov’l office in Negros

BACOLOD City – Good news to Negros Occidental’s 60 colleges and universities.

The Senate approved on third and final reading House Bill (HB) No. 4958 establishing a Negros Occidental provincial office for the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

It will allow a relative large number of college students to easily avail themselves of any academic grants that CHED may offer, said Cong. Greg Gasataya, the bill’s author.

The proposed CHED office will be situated in this capital city where 25 universities and colleges operate.

Gasataya said the CHED-Negros Occidental provincial office will expedite the processing of Special Orders and other requirements pertinent to the taking of professional board exams and bar exams. Its local presence is also seen to reduce the inevitable processing expenses.

CHED is the government agency tasked with promoting relevant and quality higher education, ensuring access to quality higher education, and guaranteeing and protecting academic freedom for continuing intellectual growth, advancement of learning and research, development of responsible and effective leadership, education of high level professionals, and enrichment of historical and cultural heritages./PN
