CHED warns schools ‘forcing’ graduates

BY GLENDA SOLOGASTOA

ILOILO City – Graduates have the freedom to choose where to take review classes for their board exams.

According to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region 6, public and private colleges and universities in Western Visayas should not force graduates where to take review classes.

Dr. Rex Casiple, CHED Region 6 supervising education program specialist, said two groups of graduates from private schools had complained against their schools for doing such.

However, the CHED official did not name the schools.

“Students have options where to review. Schools cannot direct them where to,” said Casiple.

Two years ago, CHED Region 6 also received similar complaints. According to the graduates, their schools threatened not to release their school records.

The complainants were graduates of engineering, accountancy, criminology, and nursing, said Casiple.

CHED Region 6 already issued a memorandum to higher education institutions reminding them not to coerce their board exam takers.

Erring schools will be punished, said Casiple without elaborating./PN
