MANILA – Chery Tiggo Crossovers surged to their second straight win in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference after a 25-14, 25-15, 25-21 sweep of newcomer Galeries Tower Highrisers on Thursday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
Ennajie Laure led the way with 15 points to go along with nine excellent digs and four excellent receptions as the Crossovers took an early lead in the standings with 2-0 win-loss slate.
Ejiya Laure chipped in 12 points on nine attacks, two kill blocks, and an ace, while Jasmine Nabor tossed 14 excellent sets to go with seven points off three blocks, two attacks, and two aces.
Building from their dominant win over Farm Fresh Foxies last Tuesday, the Crossovers took the first two sets with ease but had to fight off the Dimdim Pacres-led Highrisers in the third frame to take the win.
Pacres, a former standout of University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses, was the lone bright spot for the Highrisers with 11 points as they suffered their second consecutive loss.
Meanwhile, Choco Mucho Flying Titans bounced back from their opening day loss with a 25-18, 25-13, 25-17 rout of the Foxies to improve to 1-1. Farm Fresh dropped to 0-2.
Cherry Ann Rondina spearheaded the offense with 21 points, highlighted by 17 vicious attacks and three blocks. Desiree Cheng added 10 markers, while Caitlyn Viray and Madeleine Madayag each scored nine points for the Flying Titans.
The Flying Titans struggled to find their rhythm and bearing early in the opening set, but they managed to turn things around behind a huge 12-0 scoring blast to take a 1-0 set edge.
Choco Mucho never let up from there, dominating the Foxies with their power game, with setter Deanna Wong activating the rest of Choco Mucho’s hitters, including Cheng, Viray, Madayag, Kat Tolentino, Bea de Leon, and Cherry Nunag.
Meanwhile, PLDT High Speed Hitters recovered from their first game loss to score a 25-16, 25-16, 25-23 victory over the Akari Power Chargers. Both squads now have a 1-1 win-loss slate./PN
