MANILA – Chery Tiggo Crossovers relied on their newcomers to score a clear 25-18, 22-25, 25-19, 19-25, 15-7 triumph over Akari Power Chargers in the Premier Volleyball League Invitational on Tuesday night at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Rookies Ejiya Laure, Imee Hernandez and Ilongga Princess Ann Robles came up with crucial points in the fifth set as the Crossovers improved to 1-1 win-loss slate and stayed in the playoffs race.

Laure and Czarina Carandang opened the deciding set with consecutive attacks as the Crossovers build a 4-1 advantage, before Hernandez and Robles took over late in the frame to preserve the victory.

“Ang mindset ko, lagi ko naman ‘tong nararamdaman naman so bakit hindi ko i-apply dito sa Chery. Parang UAAP pa lang ang dami na naming five sets so ‘di naman kami basta-basta bumibitaw sa mga ganitong laban,” said Laure.

Laure led the Crossovers with 19 points, including 17 attack points, while her elder sister Ennajie Laure contributed 15 markers, while Mylene Paat and Ponggay Gaston each fired 11 points.

“Masayang masaya kami na nakapanalo na kami dahil sa iksi ng liga so every win is very important,” said Crossovers head coach Aaron Velez, whose wards bounced back from a loss to Creamline Cool Smashers two weeks ago.

Negrense Christine Joy Soyud came through with 18 points while rookie Faith Nisperos and Trisha Genesis contributed 15 points apiece for the Power Chargers, which dropped to 0-2 record.

Meanwhile, F2 Logistics Cargo Movers notched their third victory in as many matches following a come-from-behind 21-25, 25-17, 17-25, 25-21, 18-16 victory over Choco Mucho Flying Titans (2-1).

Kim Kianna Dy spearheaded the Cargo Movers’ offense with 24 points, on 21 attacks, two blocks and a service ace, while Ilongga Abigail Maraño finished with 14 hits and Mary Joy Baron and Jolina dela Cruz matched 11-point outputs.

Cherry Rondina ended with 28 points while Desiree Cheng and Cherry Nunag made 13 and 12 points, respectively, in abbreviated stints and Caitlyn Viray added 10 hits for the Flying Titans./PN
