Chevrons are installed along the Aklan West Road. Chevron signs are used to guide motorists through a change in horizontal alignment of the road such as curves sharp turns.
ILOILO City – Local and foreign tourists going to Boracay Island can now travel safely with the provision of warning and directional signs along the national roads.
Recently, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Aklan District Engineering Office has installed chevrons along the curve sections of Aklan West Road from the towns of Nabas to Caticlan in Malay.
The signs are installed for the safety of motorists from Iloilo City and the provinces of Iloilo and Capiz going to Caticlan in Malay town and vice versa.
According to District Engineer Noel L. Fuentebella, the installation of the chevron is part of the Long Term Performance Based Maintenance Contract of the National Roads Improvement and Management Program, Phase 2 of the agency.
Fuentebella added that the installation is in accordance with the standard specification as provided in the Department Order No. 10, series 2011.
Fuentebella furthermore ensured that the maintenance crew of the district will be regularly deployed to ensure that the signs are clearly visible and free from roadside vegetation.
Chevron signs are used to guide motorists through a change in horizontal alignment of the road such as curves and less than sharp turns. They are also used to supplement any of the advance warning signs such as guide posts and delineators.
Chevron sign is made of reflective sheeting that is weather-resistant and has high reflectivity to vehicle headlights depending on the angle of incidence./PN
