Chicken, eggs output rise in Q4 2024

ILOILO City – The production of chicken and chicken eggs in Western Visayas increased in the fourth quarter of 2024, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Region 6.

PSA-6 data released on February 21, 2025 showed that chicken production rose 8.8 percent, reaching 38,395 metric tons, while egg production showed an increase of 15.3 percent, totaling 11,810 metric tons.

In terms of duck production, it declined by 9.1 percent, recording 664 metric tons, which was 66 metric tons lower than the output in the same quarter of 2023. Also, duck egg production dropped to 948 metric tons – 4.9 percent lower than the 997 metric tons in the same period in 2023.

Moreover, chicken dressed in poultry dressing plants in the region reached 15,269,555. The figure is 0.7 percent higher than the 106,715 dressed chicken in the last quarter of 2023.

Meanwhile, the provinces of Iloilo and Negros Occidental led in the region’s chicken inventory.

As of January 1, 2025, Western Visayas recorded a total chicken inventory of 18,872,292, with Iloilo accounting for 37.5 percent of the total population and Negros Occidental followed closely with 31.6 percent.

Iloilo also led in broiler and native chicken inventories while Negros Occidental topped layer and gamefowl inventories.

Iloilo shared the highest inventory of broiler and native/improved chicken. Of the region’s 4,324,947 broiler chicken, the province accounted for 42.3 percent followed by Aklan with 23.9 percent, and Capiz with 18.8 percent.

In the native/improved chicken population which totaled 12,264,880 birds, Iloilo remained the top contributor with 38.9 percent, followed by Negros Occidental (34.4 percent) and Capiz (10.2 percent).

Negros Occidental, meanwhile, led in layer and gamefowl chicken population.

Of the region’s 1,847,590 layer chicken inventory, Negros Occidental contributed 44.1 percent. Iloilo came in second with 24.1 percent and Capiz at third with 19.3 percent.

For gamefowl chicken which recorded a total of 434,875 birds, Negros Occidental also contributed the highest with 69.4 percent, followed by Antique (12.1 percent) and Iloilo (8.4 percent)./PN
