BACOLOD City – Prices of chicken, pork and other meat products in this province have slightly increased in the period of general community quarantine.
According to the latest report of the Provincial Veterinary Office, the average price per kilogram of dressed broiler chicken has gone up by P0.06 while native chicken increased to P0.14.
On May 26, the price per kilogram (kg.) of dressed boiler chicken increased to P162.61 from P162.55 on May 18.
Currently, native chicken costs P253.26 per kg., up from its previous P253.12.
Pork, on the other hand, is now being sold at P205.42 per kg. – P0.63 higher than its previous price of P204.79.
Provincial veterinarian Dr. Renante Decena on May 28 attributed the slight increase in prices of meat products to the prevailing community quarantine measures.
“There’s higher demand as slaughter increases due to (the) bulk-buying scheme. People tend to store pork for their consumption because transportation is limited,” said Decena.
The price per kg. of carabeef is now pegged at P261.62. It is higher than last week’s P260.90
A kg of beef costs P266.38 from the previous P265.98, while chevon costs P316.96 – up from last week’s P316.01.
On the other hand, Decena said the average price of eggs decrease due to lower transports costs. A layer farm egg outlet is based only in this city.
Prevailing prices range from P6.34 to P8.18 per piece, depending on the size.
These are lower by P0.19 to P0.31 per piece compared to the previous prices that ranged from P6.53 to P8.49.(With a report from PNA/PN)
