BACOLOD City – Police arrested an Australian man in a mall in Barangay Palampas, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

The 53-year-old Raymond Bird – temporarily residing on Gold Street, Teachers’ Village in Barangay 2, San Carlos City – was accused of committing child prostitution and sexual abuse, police said.

San Carlos City officers arrested Bird on the strength of a warrant that Judge Amy Alabado-Avellano of the Regional Trial Court Branch 58 in San Carlos City issued on July 19, 2017.

Bird was caught at around 9:40 a.m. on March 1. He was detained at the San Carlos City police station lockup facility.

The Australian man was charged with two counts of violation of Section 5 of Republic Act 7610, or the Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

The court recommended a P180,000 bail bond for each count, police said./PN
