BACOLOD City – The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Philippines delivered 10,000 bags of relief goods to victims of super typhoon “Odette” in Negros Occidental ad Bacolod City recently.
In a Facebook post, Ambassador Huang Xilian disclosed that the Chinese Embassy, along with the Filipino-Chinese community, conducted relief operations to typhoon victims in the province.
The donation of 10,000 relief bags included rice, instant noodles and canned goods.
The distribution took place between Dec. 27 and 30, 2021.
In Bacolod City, Mayor Evelio Leonardia personally attended the turnover of 1,000 bags. The distribution was led by local Filipino-Chinese organizations.
Xilian said other areas dire need of drinking water also received much needed supplies.
“With a hopeful heart, I wish for the speedy recovery of these affected regions and may the resilience of Filipinos arise once again. May we all emerge stronger after these trials,” he added.
In total, 49 people in Negros Occidental died when “Odette” ravaged the province in the early morning of Dec. 16, 2021.
The typhoon also left almost P6-billion worth of damage and displaced thousands of Negrenses, especially in the southern part of the province./PN
