ILOILO City – A Chinese company engaged in four major businesses such as information technology, new energy, auto, and rail transit sees this city with a high potential for their investments.

BYD Auto Industry Company Limited officials who are in the city for a pre-feasibility study on a proposed monorail said they also plan to put up other environment-friendly projects such as solar farms, electric transportation, and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, among others.

“Basically we are going to introduce electric vehicles, taxi sections and bus sections, solar farm products and energy products or whatever demands from the market we are going to offer to Iloilo City,” said Liu Xueliang, general manager of BYD Auto Industry Company Limited’s Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division. He spoke through his interpreter and senior regional manager Benjamin Zhao.

Liu also said Iloilo City is a livable city and he hoped BYD Auto Industry Company Limited can help make it a “green city.”

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog welcomed BYD Auto Industry Company Limited’s interest for putting up other investments in the metropolis aside from monorail.

“BYD also represents other products especially those that promote green environment. So this is not only for monorail but also for other products and I am glad that I was informed that in their first visit, they find Iloilo as a nice place and is viable for them to put their investments. They see a lot of potentials in Iloilo City that is why they want to help us make Iloilo City as a green city,” said Mabilog.

He said the proposed establishment of monorail in Iloilo City marks another milestone for the city government and may address the transportation concern of Iloilo City.

Mabilog and Liu’s group signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Non-Disclosure Agreement between the Iloilo City government and BYD Auto Industry Company Limited on Tuesday for the conduct of a pre-feasibility study for the implementation of a comprehensive monorail system in the metropolis.

The pre-feasibility study will determine the potential of the said project in the city. Its outcome will also be presented to the Sangguniang Panlungsod. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
