Chinese nat’l, 7 others nabbed for ‘fake’ construction tools

ILOILO City – Eight individuals, including a Chinese national, were arrested for allegedly selling counterfeit construction tools.

Detained at the Iloilo City Police Station 1 were Rona Degayo, 24, of Barangay Amerang, Maasin, Iloilo and warehouse supervisor of Sentak Marketing on Ledesma Street, City Proper; Ellah Dela Cruz, 25, of Roxas City, store manager; Christine Ann Andiano, 28, of Barangay Cunsad, Maasin; Jeneza Lacorita, 25, of Negros Occidental; and Joan Castro of Barangay Poblacion, Maasin.

Also detained were Zhan Xianbai, owner of E-MK Hardware Trading on De Leon Street, Barangay Nonoy, Iloilo City, and his employees Erwin D. Doloso and Gerald Bonete, both of Iloilo City.

The search warrants were simultaneously implemented at 6:20 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10.

Judge Victorino Oliveros Maniba Jr. of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 39, issued the search warrants for violations of Section 155 (Infringement) and Section 168 (Unfair Competition) of Republic Act 8293 (Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines).

Iloilo City Police Office director Colonel Joeresty Coronica said they received a complaint from Taiwan Resibon Abrasive Products Co. LTD/Tailin Abrasives Corporation about the alleged sale of fake Tailin cutting discs.

“May complaint kita nga ining stores kag bodega nagabaligya sang peke nga Tailin cutting disc ang gina takod or bala sa sander or grinder. So we conducted a test-buy to know kung peke gid man kag na-prove naton nga peke,” Coronica said.

A total of 35 boxes were recovered from Sentak Marketing’s warehouse and store, while a cutting wheel, two Tailin carton boxes, a stub delivery receipt, and two stubs of cash sales invoices were recovered from E-MK Hardware Trading./PN
