CHO to monitor ambulant vendors outside schools

BACOLOD City – The City Health Office (CHO) will monitor ambulant vendors selling foods outside public schools as classes resume.

CHO Environment and Sanitation Division head Grace Tan said health units in 61 barangays in this city will ensure that vendors are compliant to the government-imposed requirements.

“Our barangay health workers will inspect these vendors if they have secured proper sanitation permits from the city government,” said Tan.

Cited on an ordinance authored by Councilor Em Ang, all ambulant vendors are required to secure Health Cards before they could do business.

It also states that “all efforts of public services should be directed towards the protection and promotion of health of the people being of paramount importance.”

Violators of the said ordinance will be charged with a P300 fine or one day of community service for first offense; P500 or two days of community service for second offense;  P1,000 fine or five days community service for third offense.

Based on Department of Education Order No. 8, Series of 2007, public schools are directed to sell only nutrient-rich food and fortified food products that shall be sold in school canteens./PN
