ILOILO City – The Christmas celebration across Western Visayas was largely peaceful, with no major incidents reported, according to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
Police Brigadier General Jack Wanky, PRO-6 director, attributed the peaceful celebration to intensified crime prevention efforts, particularly during key activities such as the Simbang Gabi, family gatherings, reunions, and gift-giving events.
“No major incidents have been monitored in relation to our religious activities,” Wanky said.
From December 16 to 25, PRO-6 recorded 484 crime incidents, a 35.12 percent drop compared to 746 incidents during the same period last year.
Focus crimes — such as murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, and motor vehicle carnapping — fell significantly, with only 24 incidents logged this year, down from 102 incidents in 2023, reflecting a 76.47 percent decrease.
Wanky commended police commanders and personnel across the region for their dedication to ensuring public safety.
“We extend our sincerest gratitude to the people of Western Visayas, local government units, and stakeholders for their support. This achievement is the product of our collective effort,” he said.
The PRO-6 chief also assured the public of continued vigilance.
“Rest assured that your police in the region will serve with commitment, sincerity, and fairness. May we face the coming year with renewed strength, peace, and God’s guidance,” he said.
The security plan for the Yuletide season, which includes intensified police operations, will remain in effect through the New Year’s celebrations and until January 2025./PN
