BACOLOD City – A local church group blasted President Rodrigo Duterte over his tirades against the Catholic faith.

Duterte’s attack on religion is “unacceptable” and “too much,” according to Promotion of Church People’s Response (PCPR)-Negros.

PCPR-Negros spokesman Deacon Melvin Fajardo said Duterte challenging anyone to prove God’s existence is an attack not only on Roman Catholics but on all Christians.

The President, who has earlier sparked outrage for calling God “stupid,” made a new controversy by saying he will resign if anybody can prove that God exists in a speech last Friday.

He said if there is “one single witness” who can prove – perhaps with a picture or a selfie – that a human was “able to talk [to] and see God,” he will immediately resign.

Duterte also questioned some of the basic tenets of the Catholic faith, including the concept of original sin, which he said taints even innocent infants.

Fajardo also expressed his concern over the victims of recent killings, including mayors and other local officials.

Fajardo enjoined all Christians to pray for “enlightenment” so that they can no longer be “deceived by the fact-twisting attempts of the current administration to cover up its failure to serve the people.”/PN
