MANILA – Cignal HD Spikers contributed to Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors’ struggle in the 2019 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference after a 25-8, 25-16, 25-22 sweep over the weekend at the San Juan Arena.
Mylene Paat tallied 12 points, including nine attacks, while Alohi Robins-Hardy chipped in 10 markers and eight excellent sets. The HD Spikers captured its fourth win in five games.
“Our players did a good job. We are very pleased that everybody stepped up especially our second stringers,” said HD Spikers assistant coach Rico de Guzman. “I told them not to doubt themselves because I believe in them and they did not disappoint.”
After two lopsided sets, the Lady Realtors tried to give the HD Spikers a scare in the third. Amanda Villanueva kept the Lady Realtors at bay, 16-16, before Robins-Hardy took over for the HD Spikers and handed her team a 21-18 edge.
The HD Spikers looked to end the match after reaching match point, 24-19, before the Lady Realtors saved three match points, 22-24. But Paat sealed the win for the HD Spikers.
Roselle Baliton, Joy Dacoron and MJ Philips each had six markers for Sta. Lucia, which slumped to 1-9 win-loss record.
Meanwhile, Foton Tornadoes cruised to its sixth victory after a 25-16, 28-26, 25-15 sweep over Generika-Ayala Lifesavers. Dindin Santiago-Manabat tallied 19 points for the Tornadoes (7-3)./PN
