MANILA – Cignal HD Spikers flaunted its defensive blanket to frustrate Generika-Ayala Lifesavers, 25-15, 17-25, 25-18, 25-22, in the knockout quarterfinals of the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Rachel Anne Daquis top-scored with 14 points on Saturday while Filipino-American setter Alohi Robins-Hardy had an all-around game of 19 excellent sets, 13 points and seven blocks.
Mylene Paat and Jovelyn Gonzaga added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The HD Spikers collides with defending champions Petron Blaze Spikers in the semifinals on Tuesday.
“We had enough preparation for this round and I told them that our fate is in our hands. They really gave everything,” said HD Spikers head coach Edgar Barroga. “Our two losses to Generika was also a factor. It was a challenge for us.”
Paat and Gonzaga delivered the winning points when Cignal squandered a 23-18 lead in the fourth set. The Lifesavers scored five straight unanswered points, trimming it to just one, 23-22.
Ilongga Fiola Ceballos had 25 points laced with 17 digs and eight excellent receptions, while Bacolodnon Patty Kane Orendain added 11 markers only for the Lifesavers.
Meanwhile, F2 Logistics Cargo Movers clinched the last semifinals seat after a 25-10, 25-14, 25-17 demolition of Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors. Kalei Mau lifted the Cargo Movers with 17 points./PN
